Roland TR-606

Roland TR-606

This little silver box is the 'partner' to the TB303 and is another new addition to the studio. It hasn't been used on any tracks on the CD but it will be in the future. As soon as I got it I had the trigger outs fed into the SH101, which was producing a 'blippy' rhythm, and it was synced up to the TB303 to produce some instant techno, all without turning the computer on! Quite impressive and inspirational, I will probably try using this method of writing the odd track in the future.

The sounds are very much like the TR808 but are not quite as 'harsh' (I'm not sure that's the right word), it's more 'bouncy' and 'lighter' somehow. It doesn't have the same sound editing options as the 808 either just the levels can be changed and no individual outputs, although these can be added if you want to start drilling holes in your machine! I prefer to leave 'vintage' gear in its original state and use it as it was intended. It's no hassle recording each drum sound onto separate tracks in the sequencer anyway.
